Note, the timetable lists the sections that will occur in each of the sessions, however the sections are in numerical order NOT the order that they will appear on the program. All competitors need to be at the venue ready to begin at the stated starting time for each session.

At the recent meeting of the Bendigo Competitions Society Committee it was decided to extend the closing date for entries for VCE Music and Contemporary, Jazz and Classical Guitar to 22nd April.

GENI Online Entry Interface is now LIVE..!

As previously reported, the Bendigo Competition Society is proud to introduce, in conjunction with Bendigo IT, the availability of GENI (Gaia Eisteddfod Navigator Interface) – a specially developed online Eisteddfod manager which is now used to run our annual competitions.
After registering, GENI provides competitors with the ability to quickly and easily place entries online. Please click on the GENI link provided at the top of this screen to make use of this new facility.

2010 SCHEDULES HAVE BEEN POSTED

The majority of Schedules for the 2010 Eisteddfod have now been posted to the Comps website. Simply click on the "Schedules" menu option and then select the desired PDF to download.
Note, as of 22nd February, the new GENI interface will be available for online entries to be made and managed. Stay tuned..!

In conjunction with a sponsor partner, Bendigo IT, the Society is pleased to announce the availability of GENI (Gaia Eisteddfod Navigator Interface) – a specially developed on-line Eisteddfod manager which is now used to run our annual competitions.
GENI allows on-line entry and payment for competitors, as well as powerful on-line Eisteddfod management capabilities. Please refer to the appropriate link for further detail.

STORM THE STAGE

In conjunction with the six Rotary Clubs of Bendigo, the Bendigo Competitions Society Inc. is pleased to announce the hosting of the 2010 Bendigo heats and State Final of ‘Storm The Stage’, a national musical theatre and monologue presentation competition. National finals are held each December at Burswood Theatre Complex in Perth. Details of this competition can be found on our Dance Schedule.

85th Annual Eisteddfod Celebrations!

2010 sees our 85th Annual Eisteddfod in Bendigo. To celebrate, the Society proposes a special new section showcasing the best of our performances across several disciplines. This will be held in conjunction with the State finals of Storm The Stage, thus promising an exciting weekend of talented young performers.

2009 Leila Watson Memorial Music Championship - Invitations

The Bendigo Competitions Society would like to congratulate the following competitors who have been invited, as winners of specific sections, to perform in the Leila Watson Memorial Music Championship on Friday 19th June 2009.
As at Sunday, 14th June 2009:

- V.C.E. Music - Ned Claridge (highest VCE points scored).
- Piano - Victor Hu, Sam Whillance, Cleleste Cari & Andrew Ryan.

Give a Smile Scholarship for 2009

A donation of $750 from the Taree Eisteddfod was presented to the Bendigo Competitions Society at the A.E.S.A. (The Association of Eisteddfod Societies of Australia Inc.) meeting which the Bendigo Competitions Society Inc. hosted in November 2008.
The Society decided to use this donation to offer two Scholarships, each to the value of $375. These will be presented to a selected Music competitor and a selected Dance competitor, to be used for the purpose of furthering their studies. Awards for the Music and Dance Scholarships will be selected from competitors between 14 and 20 years of age.
The selection is to be the responsibility of the committee. Competitors who display special performance qualities will be noted.
At the end of Music competition the Committee will consult re nominations to decide the winner. This procedure will also be followed for Dance.
The 2009 Give a Smile Scholarship is not ongoing at this stage.

School Choir and School Instrumental Closing Date Change

Prize Monies in 2009

A number of events in 2009 are offering new prize money to further spice up the competition. For example, Section P38 "Piano 23 years and under Student Piano Accompanist Prize", is offering $30 for first place, $20 for second place and $10 for third. Also, the Annie Mildred Nancarrow Memorial Piano Award Solo 23 years and under is offering a fantastic $150 for 1st place, $75 for 2nd and $25 for 3rd.

DON COWELL MEMORIAL TRUST SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE OF $200 FOR A SECONDARY COLLEGE RECORDER COMPETITOR

This trust was set up to perpetuate the memory of Don Cowell, a gifted player and teacher of the recorder and other instruments, who was killed in a car accident in 1979 when he was but 44 years old. Don was a founding member of the Victorian Recorder Guild and served on the Committee from 1974. He taught CAE Recorder classes and was, in addition, the recorder soloist for the Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra.
The funds to establish the Trust were donated by recorder and mandolin players and other musicians. The trust deed provides that the funds are to be used to provide an annual prize to a student of recorder, in order to encourage their further studies and the performance of recorder and its repertoire.
The Bendigo Competitions Society Inc. is appreciative of the Trustees willingness to offer a prize in 2009, and hopes that recorder teachers and students will avail themselves of the opportunity to enter the recorder sections this year. For further details please refer to the

Caitlin Penno wins both Intermediate and Open Showcase Prizes

Bendigo Vocalist Caitlin Penno this weekend won both major showcase events which wrapped up the Modern Vocal Section of the Bendigo Competitions Society’s Annual Eisteddfod.
To enter the Showcase events performers had to qualify by performing in at least two different sections in their age group throughout the Modern Vocal competition weekend. In the Showcase Performance Solos each competitor was required to perform two contrasting items; one of which had to be a repeat of a previous item and the other a piece not performed in Bendigo this year.
During the weekend Caitlin competed in both the 18 years and under and 26 years and under sections to qualify for the Showcase events.
The adjudicator congratulated all contestants on their hard work during the weekend which had lead to their appearance in these Showcase Events and she commented that the entertainment they provided in these final sections was to be commended.

Please Note - Changes made to Master Classes

Please note that changes have been made to both the Classical Vocal and Modern Vocal Master Classes, as follows:
Classical Vocal Master Class:
Competitors metering 26 years and under solos and/or 35 years and under Classical Vocal solos are invited to put forward expressions of interest. Previously we had competitors 23 - 35 years of age. Note, the flyer for this Master Class has been updated.
Modern Vocal Master Class::
This workshop is open to singers entering either the Modern Vocal sections or Song and Dance/Song and Tap sections. Competitors from both Music and Dance are welcome to put forward expressions of interest.
